ABOUT US
Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures and Outfitting is owned and operated by Mark and Maryna Conway of Sterling, Alaska. With over twenty five years successfully guiding as a "Purest" fly fishing guide in the Northwest and on the Kenai Peninsula, Mark knows when and where the fish are and where the crowds are not. Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures is a Christian Business Association.
Mark is certified as a fishing guide to guide on the Kenai River and through out Alaska as a professional fishing guide, a graduate and instructor at University of Alaska's," Kenai River Guide Academy," in Soldotna Alaska. Mark advocates catch and release fishing, but knows precisely what to do with your fish to preserve the best flavor after you decide to keep your fish for eating later on. Conway now teaches a class at the Kenai River Guide Academy in Soldotna and writes freelance articles about fly fishing and the Alaska Outdoors. Conway is active as a fly tying instructor, fly casting instructor and is working on a weekly fishing radio program along with long time fishing friend, Ken Hoopengarner of Kennewick Washington. Ken is retired Outdoor Editor of the Tri City Hearld, 27 years.
Mark Conway's specialty as a fishing guide is flying clients out to remote areas of South Central Alaska to fish secluded streams and rivers for classic Alaskan Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Grayling and all five species of salmon. Mark is best known for his old school classic "Purest" approach to fly fishing. Reading a stream for rising Rainbow, matching the hatch and learning the art of Dry Fly Casting for big Rainbow Trout are his expertise. You will find Mark's passion is taking you away from the crowds of fishers and letting you experience first hand the truth about fly fishing as you wade in the stream or creek to the trout's lie and cast a fly that the trout can not resist.
Mark Conway is also a born again believer in Christ. His life was dedicated to Christ in 1970 when he drowned in a surfing accident in California at 19. Miraculously, God spared Mark's life from going to be with the Him that day. This is what Christ said to Mark that day when Mark asked Him why He spared his life. "I have a purpose for you and you have not fulfilled it." Since then, Mark has been a follower of Christ experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit and Life of Christ in him. As Mark pursues the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness in Christ's life on God's awesome earth, he is blessed along with his wife Maryna to enjoy sharing his fly fishing expertise and fishing lodge with others from all over the world.
Conway owned a professional photography studio in Washington State prior to moving to Alaska 18 years ago. Mark has blended his passion of portrait photography with his guiding clients, taking his reputation as a Master Portrait Photographer since 1987 and mending his artistic expression with his fly fishing passion with others. A photo album of professional quality digital photos of your guided trip is a bonus that no other guide service in Alaska can offer you and at no additional cost to you should you desire.
Maryna Conway is the nuts and bolts of Alaska fly fishing. She uses her talents making sure clients are well taken care of. Maryna co-manages the Pinewood Inn Lodge, making sure beds are clean and made up each day, refreshing the food and snacks available 24 hours a day to our clients and answering the phones during our busy fishing season.

MORE ABOUT YOUR GUIDE MARK CONWAY
In Washington State, Mark mastered fly fishing for steelhead and salmon during the early '80's in Eastern Washington on the Columbia, Grande Rhonde and Walla Walla Rivers. As a professional studio photographer, Mark began to explore the adventures of Outdoor Photography and Fly Fishing as a hobby. Years later, as the popularity of fly fishing began to grow, Mark was in the lead already, photographing and teaching fly fishing to vast others in Washington state and Alaska.
In 1984 Mark made his first fly fishing discovery of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska while on a fly fishing trip to Alaska. Needless to say, his first adventure to Alaska continues on.
In 1994, at 43, Mark moved to Soldotna Alaska to live year around and guide in the summers. In 1995, Mark started up his own Alaska fly fishing guide service in Soldotna, Alaska Fly Fishing Adventures and Outfitting. Mark made his specialty, "fly fishing in smaller streams in Alaska for Steelhead, Trout and Alaskan Wild Salmon."
